The purpose of this website is to increase awareness about ALS, and most importantly, to raise funds to fight this disease.  My vision and hope is that these funds will help the ALS Association to lead the fight to cure and treat ALS through global, cutting-edge research, and to empower people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support.

There is no cure or treatment today that halts or reverses ALS. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries.  It can strike anyone.  No two people will have the same journey or experiences with this disease.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's famous speech- July 4th, 1939.
The life expectancy of most people fighting ALS is three to four years.  I have been much more fortunate.  I tell friends that I have a "good" case of a very bad disease.  My illness' progress is quite slow, which places me in the most fortunate five percent of all cases.  I have fought ALS for eleven years, and hope to continue to do so for many years to come.

5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year. (That's 15 new cases a day.) It is estimated that as many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any given time.  Although the cause of ALS is poorly understood, recent years have brought a wealth of new scientific understanding regarding the physiology of this disease.  New methods, such as stem-cell research, offer hope and the possibility of an eventual cure.

I have set up a webpage in my name through the Greater San Diego ALS Association's website Community of Hope.  My goal, to raise $50,000, is both ambitious and realistic.  Scientists seeking a cure and effective treatment options are on the threshold of unprecedented opportunities.  Please help me provide hope for current and future patients diagnosed with ALS.
